Guitar and Bass Guitar students, parents and teachers, this is your page. You'll find information below on all things guitar and bass guitar for our upcoming Student Music Festival.

Festival Info

Virtuoso Guitar

For virtuoso guitar players, your performance song can be of any genre or style performed on any type of guitar. Compete against other guitar and bass guitar students. Receive a scorecard with feedback from a judge. 1st Place Winner performs live at our Sunday Awards Show.

Guitar Open Classical Solo

For guitar students who play classical guitar, performance music is chosen by the student's teacher. A competitive performance event. Student receives feedback on a scorecard from the judge. Winners receive trophy.

Guitar Open Pop or Rock Solo

For guitar students playing any type of fretted guitar. Ukulele, mandolin and banjo too. Performance music is chosen by the student's teacher. A competitive performance event. ​Student receives feedback on a scorecard from the judge. Winners receive trophy.

 Guitar Standard Solo

For guitar students playing any type of guitar. Performance music is from our Standards List located on the Registration Form below. A competitive category, students receive feedback on a scorecard from the judge. Winners receive trophy.

Bass Guitar Open Solo

For bass guitar students. Performance music is chosen by the student's teacher. A competitive performance event, students receive feedback on a scorecard from the judge.

Guitar Evaluation

A non-competitive event, guitar students playing any type of guitar, can perform a song for a specialized guitar adjudicator and receive feedback with a scorecard. Students receive a participation award and certificate.

Bass Guitar Evaluation

A non-competitive event, bass guitar students can perform a song for an adjudicator and receive feedback and a scorecard. Students receive a participation award and certificate.

Guitar & Bass Guitar Rules for Festival

Guitar Open Classical Solo 
Students must perform with a classical guitar, without a pick and seated in classical position using a foot rest (brought by student). All guitar soloists except Elementary and Adult/College should perform by memory. However, if you're unable to memorize your performance song, use your sheet music. Points will be deducted from your overall score, however well worth your great performance as a result. For Guitar Open Classical Solo, judge shall be presented with a copy of the published sheet music/book at the time of the performance. Photocopies are not permitted. 

Guitar Open Pop or Rock Solo 
​Students may perform on any style of guitar - classical, acoustic or electric. Students may choose to perform sitting or standing and may choose to use a guitar pick or play finger-style. Students must bring any necessary equipment and accessories, including an amplifier and cable if playing an electric guitar. All guitar soloists except Elementary and Adult/College should perform by memory. However, if you're unable to memorize your performance song, use your sheet music. Points will be deducted from your overall score, however well worth your great performance as a result. For Guitar Open Pop/Rock Solo judge shall be presented with a copy of the published sheet music/book at the time of the performance. Photocopies are not permitted. 

Guitar Standard Solo
​Students may perform on any style of guitar - classical, acoustic or electric. Students may choose to perform sitting or standing and may choose to use a guitar pick or play finger-style. Students must bring any necessary equipment and accessories, including an amplifier and cable if playing an electric guitar. All guitar soloists except Prep and Adult/College should perform by memory. However, if you're unable to memorize your performance song, use your sheet music. Points will be deducted from your overall score, however well worth your great performance as a result. For Guitar Standard Solo judge shall be presented with a copy of the published sheet music/book, from the Standard List, at the time of the performance. Photocopies are not permitted.
  • For guitar standard solo music marked *classical, students must perform on a classical guitar held in classical position. For other musical genres, any style guitar - nylon string, steel string, electric - may be used and played in any position, seated or standing. All standards music must be performed on solo guitar. No recorded or live accompaniments of any kind. 

Guitar Evaluation 
​Students may perform on any style of guitar - classical, acoustic or electric. Students may choose to perform sitting or standing and may choose to use a guitar pick or play finger-style. Students must bring any necessary equipment and accessories, including an amplifier and cable if playing an electric guitar. All guitar soloists should perform by memory. However, if you're unable to memorize your performance song, use your sheet music. Points will be deducted from your overall score, however well worth your great performance as a result. For Guitar Evaluation judge shall be presented with a copy of the published sheet music/book, at the time of the performance. Photocopies are not permitted. ​

Bass Guitar Open Solo 
Students may choose to perform sitting or standing. Students must bring all necessary equipment and accessories, including amplifier and cables. All bass guitar soloists except Elementary & Adult/College should perform from memory. However, if you're unable to memorize your performance song, use your sheet music. Points will be deducted from your overall score, however well worth your great performance as a result. For Bass Guitar Open Solo, judge shall be presented with a copy of the performance song at the time of the performance. Photocopies are not permitted.

Bass Guitar Evaluation ​
Students may choose to perform sitting or standing. Students must bring all necessary equipment and accessories, including amplifier and cables. All bass guitar soloists should perform from memory. However, if you're unable to memorize your performance song, use your sheet music. Points will be deducted from your overall score, however well worth your great performance as a result. For Bass Guitar Evaluation, judge shall be presented with a copy of the performance song at the time of the performance. Photocopies are not permitted.
