We recommend reading and reviewing MAMTG's Festival Guidelines & Rules...
Memberships and performance registrations must be postmarked by the 2/1 deadline and mailed to MAMTG @ PO Box 4275 Metuchen, NJ 08840. Memberships or registrations postmarked after the Festival deadline of 2/1 require an additional $50 as noted on the Registration Forms. Performance registrations changed after 3/1 require a $175 event change fee. Performance registrations added after 3/1 require an additional $225 plus any original amount(s). There are no refunds for any reason(s). Performance schedules are emailed in March to the member school, member private teacher or member adult student/parent. In lieu of mailing, registration packets may be delivered to our East Brunswick, NJ office.
Performers in age allotted competitions are not be over the age limit as of March 1st. In the event of a question regarding the student's age, performers may be required to provide their student ID, at MAMTG's sole discretion. We don't want to have to enforce this, so simply be honest with age allotted performance categories.
It happens, checks do not clear and bounce. All bounced checks will require an additional payment and NJ's NSF fee of $35. No exceptions on this.
Competitions that do not meet the minimum students required, will be canceled and changed as of 2/1's regular deadline. Member schools and teachers will be notified to allow for changing the event registration or switching to an evaluation / assessment free of charge. We want competitions to actually be competitions with several students performing. Otherwise, it's better to have an Evaluation / Assessment. MAMTG cannot control registered students that drop out, cancel afterwards or do not show up. This can change the amount of students in an event, which does not enable any other students, parents or member schools a refund for.
Evaluations are non-competitive performance events. Students receive feedback and an overall score from the adjudicator. Performance song is at the discretion of the student's teacher. There is an approximate 5-min time limit per student. Sheet music can be used during the performance. Evaluations / Assessments are a private one-to-one performance between the student and adjudicator. There is no audience. The adjudicator may offer brief verbal performance critique at the end of the performance. Students receive a performance scorecard and certificate.
Sheet Music & Books
A clean sheet or book of published music is to be presented to the judge at the time of their performance. See specific instrument pages for instructions on providing sheet music for the adjudicator / judge. Select competitions do not require published sheet music or books.
Evaluations & Judging
Each adjudication score card will be unique to the instrument, voice, musical theatre and specific performance event. See the instrument pages within this website regarding scorecard attributes and performance rules, requirements for each specific type of competition.
Performers & Warming Up
Students should warm-up prior to entering the performance event. Utilize unused ballrooms, corridors and empty event spaces to practice, warmup and prepare. Students, parents and member schools can simply ask MAMTG's Information Booth for information on where empty ballrooms may exist at a particular time.
Students performing with an audio accompaniment may need to provide their own equipment, such as the device/player, tablet, required cable(s), cd player, amplifier and/or speaker, etc. Even though MAMTG prepares for and invites sponsors to help with providing pro audio equipment, it's always best as a performer to arrive to a performance prepared for anything. Preparations such as these SHOULD BE COORDINATED WITH YOUR TEACHER AND MUSIC SCHOOL. Students, parents, teachers and attendees are not allowed to operate any venue equipment, make requests, suggestions or interfere with MAMTG's sound technician or Room Captains for any student performances.
Audience participants should be respectful of the student performing at all times. Avoid flash photography. All cell phones and electronic devices should be silenced during performance events. Aim to be seated until the performing student has completed his or her song. In other words, show respect to the performer in all of your behavior at all times.
Trophies, Medals & Cash Award Prizes
To receive trophies and medals, students, parents and/or the member school/teacher are to attend the Awards Show on Sunday. MAMTG cannot ship or deliver trophies and/or medals to schools/teachers/parents after the Festival weekend. A music school representative or teacher can retrieve trophies/medals/awards at the Awards Show on behalf of their winning students. Cash Awards will be awarded based upon registrations, sponsorships and budgeting requirements and may be determined in post-production after the Festival. Cash Awards are checks, made out to the member school, member teacher or member parent. MAMTG is not responsible for trophies, medals and awards that are dropped, damaged, misplaced, lost or stolen after a winning student has been awarded with a trophy, medal or award. Hold on tight to your awards. 1st through 3rd and 1st through 4th or 1st through 5th place winning students is determined by MAMTG staff only. Each specific competitive event may have different amounts of winning students.
MAMTG reserves the right to disqualify any student, member music school, private teacher or member parent, who has not complied with any Festival rules or guidelines, who is verbally, written or otherwise harassing to any Festival Member(s), Staff, Volunteers, Directors, Sponsors, Vendors, Exhibitors, etc. No refunds of anything for any reason(s) whatsoever.
