Festival Guidelines & Rules

Spring Music Festival

MAMTG was founded by a group of professional music educators from the New Jersey Tri-State area to establish and maintain high professional standards, exchange music related ideas, information and fellowship among colleagues, promote music education in our area and to provide a platform for music students to display their talents in a competitive environment with an annual Student Music Festival that includes student evaluations, competitions and showcases.

Music Competitions

Music Competitions are our competitive categories. Students perform for an adjudicator or multiple judges, receive performance feedback and compete against other students within their performance category and level of study. Each specific instrument and voice has its own criteria, music and Festival rules.

Music Evaluations

Music Evaluations are our non-competitive categories. Students can perform for an adjudicator, receive performance feedback, a participation award and certificate. Each instrument and voice has its own criteria. Evaluations are great for beginner students through advanced-level players. Performance feedback helps students and aspiring musicians.

Ensembles Showcase

For our Ensembles Showcase students in bands and ensembles perform live for an audience and receive feedback from an adjudicator. This is a non-competitive performance event, aimed to highlight students in groups - String Quartets, Rock Bands, Singer-Songwriters, Percussion Ensembles, Jazz Bands and Trios.

Talent Showcases
Play a Musical Instrument While Singing

Talent Showcase is for vocalists that sing while playing an instrument. Most students perform with a guitar or piano, however any instrument a student can play live while singing is allowed. It takes great talent to perform an instrument, let alone singing at the same time. Talent Showcase information and registration can be found within the Voice & Musical Theatre page.

Duets
Competitions & Evaluations

Duets are two students performing together at the same time. Competitions and evaluations are available for students of all instruments. See All Duets for information and registration form.

Festival Schedule of Events 2018

Festival Schedule of Events may be subject to change, based upon performer registrations, adjudication scheduling and ballroom/stage availability. Visit this page, as updates, may be posted here. Official performance schedules are emailed to member music schools, private teachers and member parents in March. Students attending MAMTG's Student Music Festival should plan availability for the entire weekend, especially if performing in multiple events.
